A written description of an image used by screen readers and search engines to understand what the image shows.
Alt text (short for alternative text) is a brief written description you attach to an image. Screen readers read it aloud for visually impaired users, and search engines use it to understand what an image depicts, which helps your pictures appear in image search.
Write alt text that genuinely describes the image in plain language, for example "Red brick house with a freshly painted front door". Include a keyword only if it fits naturally, and skip alt text on purely decorative images so you do not clutter the experience for screen reader users.
