Nofollow

A link attribute that tells search engines not to pass ranking credit through that particular link.

Nofollow is a small attribute added to a link that tells search engines, "Do not pass ranking credit through this link." It was created to let site owners link out without vouching for the destination, for example in user-generated comments or paid placements.

By contrast, a normal "dofollow" link can pass authority to the destination. Nofollow links still bring real visitors and brand exposure, so they are not worthless. A natural backlink profile usually contains a healthy mix of both followed and nofollow links rather than only one type.
